About Us

OverThought Productions came together in 2003 over a series of phone calls between Portland and New York. Aron was acting and working for New Dramatist while James was working as assistant to Gus Van Sant and attempting to write for a local producer.

They began working on a script, what was to become "Through the Fall", over a period of a few months. Shooting commenced in the fall, one weekend after Aron moved to Portland with James directing and producing and Aron taking the role of Prin. Antonio Bevacqua (DP) was instrumental in getting together the crew, which moved on to form Cinema Queso in the weeks following "Through the Fall". The shoot lasted 4 weekends in October. The film went on to place third at Parkdale Film Festval.

In the years since, OverThought has filmed music videos, plays and more short films. Writer Erick Mertz and producer Corwin Light- Williams took a much more active role in production. The films have often been approached as a play, focusing on the script and dialog. One film, Old Tom was produced as an experiment to see if we could make a phone conversation the center of the drama.

Everyone knows that film is a highly collaborative art, and OverThought chooses to embrace that, rather than focus on one auteur. Many other talented Portland filmmakers have worked with us on each project. Frequent collaborators are Carrie Ella Farrar, Laura Roe, Christian Dolan, John C. Meyers, Travis Ezell, Jon Beanlands, TJ Civis, Russ Calkins, and many others.

2008 will see the release of our most recent short, Closing Time, the story of a night in the life of a young pianist and his latest inspiration.
